Hi all!
I’m thankful for your continued readership. As you may have noticed, I’ve been somewhat quiet on the website. I’ve posted a bit more on the Facebook page for this site, but I have not posted a column.
Part of this has had to do with work, the other half has had to do with reworking the site. I’ve been frustrated trying to write one column a week when there are many stories I want to write about each week. My goal with the column is to write one high quality piece a week. Writing several pieces tends to lower that quality. I want to expand beyond one column and provide a slightly different service. I’ve decided to redesign the site to a more friendly user interface and start an email newsletter: The Outsider Perspective – you can sign up via this link, or through the various signup forms on the site.
What I hope to accomplish in The Outsider Perspective is to provide an in-depth look at a few news stories I’ve been following heavily through the week. I read a multitude of articles and books each week and enjoy sharing what I learn. The email newsletter is my way of sharing what stories, articles, audio, and books have impacted me in some way that week.
I’ll note here now: I will never sell or give away email addresses. I’m not creating this site or its content to sell another person’s private information. I value privacy and use services that hold that same value.
What should you expect from this newsletter: For those who befriend me on social media, they tend to see a lot of political posting. I’ve been informed more than once that my Facebook and Twitter feed is a way some people get news. The email is my way of expanding on that social media presence and providing a curated news source. I don’t post everything I read or hear on Facebook and Twitter. If I did that, I would probably be blocked by every person I know just based on volume of content (I wouldn’t blame anyone either). So what I’m going to do is write up and link to important things that I believe will impact or educate you in the same way they have me.
The name of this site is The Beltway Outsiders. The original tagline I wrote for it was: “Bringing an Outside Perspective, In.” I was trying to convey what I saw, and still see as a problem: the lack of perspective in American politics of truth and reason. Too often I see people charge into a news cycle narrative without the full facts. Truth and reason were always outside the conversation looking in.
You may notice I’ve changed the tagline. It is now: “Nihil Veritas Erubescit.” This is Latin for: “The Truth does not Blush.” It is my hope this site embodies that motto more than the original tagline. Providing truth in a dark land, during a dark time. I may not write on every story in the news, but I will not blush away from the truth. My goal is to help educate you on what is happening in the world so that you can turn around and educate others. What I try to do in social media posts is equip people with what is true, so they can inform others. I won’t cover every news cycle story that happens, but I will touch on things I notice that are important.
As an addition, I’ll post podcasts, social media posts, and quotes from books I’ve been reading through the week to give you an idea of what I’ve been reading/listening to outside internet articles. Also, I’ll cover site updates and preview some of my larger articles I’m in the process of writing.
I’ve added comments to the site as well. When I started, I disabled them to give me a chance to find my own voice while writing. I’m still a long way from developing my own voice, but I am improving. So if you have thoughts or comments, feel free to post in the comments and I’ll try to respond. If that does not suit you, feel free to email me with any concerns, questions, or comments at: daniel.vaughan@thebeltwayoutsiders.com.
Thanks for reading! I’ve enjoyed the feedback I’ve been receiving. I look forward to keeping everyone updated on the progress at the site, how we grow moving forward, and the projects I have in the pipe. Remember to subscribe to The Outsider Perspective and please share it with others!
Sincerely,
Daniel Vaughan
